Why I’m Running

I am seeking this office to make Los Angeles great again – to put L.A. back on track. I'm running on a platform of fiscal responsibility; honest, open, & accountable government; anti-corruption; and bringing jobs and opportunity back to LA. When I moved to Los Angeles in the late 1980s, people had choices when it came to finding a job. Los Angeles was the land of opportunity. Unfortunately, in the last decade, L.A. has been in a state of decline. We face numerous crises as a city – we have a jobs crisis, a budget crisis, an infrastructure crisis, an education crisis, an environmental crisis, and a transportation crisis (to name a few). There is a culture of corruption in City Hall that harms our entire city. I knew that all of my opponents would be City Hall insiders, and that those City Hall insiders would not be willing to make the tough decisions that will need to be made to turn our city around. I bring independence to the decision-making process that is critical to our ability to emerge from the financial crisis we face. Furthermore, my opponents have made the bad decisions that have harmed Los Angeles. They have proven that they are unwilling to be honest about the gravity of the problems we face. As Mayor, I will stop the misinformation, disinformation and inaccurate information. I will end the culture of corruption by exposing it from the inside. I will make L.A. a business friendly city through business tax reform and permitting reform, and I will bring L.A. back from the brink of bankruptcy with real pension reform.
